The Problem With Bad Dentures

Dentures are the most common tooth replacement form in dentistry. They have been used for hundreds of years, and the materials are more lifelike than ever. But the problem with dentures is that the restorations are not fixed in the mouth. Crowns and bridges are cemented on the teeth, so you have little if any reduction in biting force. Dentures, partial or full dentures, are kept in the mouth by suction, fit, or even denture adhesives.

Two BIG problems with missing teeth

  1. Studies show that the biting force of dentures is only about 25 to 50 percent of the power of natural teeth.
  2. When you lose teeth, the jawbone will recede. As the jawbone recedes, the face will change shape. You’ll develop wrinkles around the mouth or see the distance between your nose and chin draw closer together.

You can resolve some of these issues by visiting the dentist to have your dentures adjusted. Or you can throw away old, warped dentures for better, more comfortable dentures. At our office, we are crafting beautiful lifelike dentures that will make your smile pop.

Secure Your Dentures For Good

Some patients have had it with dentures and want other options. A few decades ago, there was little more we could for missing teeth, but now we have dental implants. Our dental implants are nearly as strong as natural teeth and can be restored with crowns, bridges, or dentures.

What makes the dental implant so special is that it actually merges with the jawbone (because it’s made of the biocompatible material titanium) and STOPS JAWBONE RECESSION. When the implant is placed, it heals with the jawbone, a process that takes a few months. Then, once the implant is healed, we can restore it with any type of restoration you might need. It’s possible for dental implants to last forever with proper care, and the dental implants will never get cavities like your natural teeth.

In the case of dentures, we can secure the restoration with dental implants. The dentures will snap into the implants, and never budge while you eat, speak, or laugh. We have helped countless patients secure their dentures with dental implants, and they are amazed at the change. They feel better. They look better. And they are more confident about their smile.

At Overmeyer Family Dental, we have two forms of dental implants. We have traditional dental implants and then mini dental implants. The latter, mini dental implants, are necessary for patients who have too severe jawbone recession for conventional implants. In the past the only option for these patients would have been bone grafting. But that’s an extensive procedure that can be unpleasant and require a lengthy recovery period, so your better option might be using mini dental implants.

Don’t Settle for Bad Dentures

Even if you’re missing all of your teeth, you shouldn’t be finished with the dentist. Today we can treat a number of issues, especially when it comes to patients who believe their smile is too far gone. Dental implants have become are go-to weapon when it comes to battling missing teeth. Almost anyone is a candidate for this revolutionary procedure, too.

If you have bad dentures or pesky missing teeth, don’t settle for bad dentures or mediocre fixes. Give us a call today at 407-705-3965 or make an appointment online.
