How Harry Regained His Smile – Part 2
Welcome back to the ongoing blog of Overmeyer Family Dental. Today, we are going to tell part two of Harry’s story. Remember Harry from last time? If you missed our last blog, you can find How Harry Regained His Smile – Part 1 right here. To make it easy for you, we will also recap what happened now:
Recap Harry’s Story
Harry visited our Orlando, FL dental office for the first time about a year ago. At that point, Harry had not visited a dentist in nearly 20 years! He was a recent retiree and had decided that he could finally afford to seek the help he knew he needed.
When Harry came into our office, he was diagnosed with widespread decay. We were able to extract his damaged teeth and replace them with removable dentures. He chose this option because they were affordable and would help him feel great about his smile again. He was right … sort of. Let’s talk about the problem Harry had with his dentures.
Living With Removable Dentures
Removable dentures are, well, removable. That means that they are not attached to your jaw like natural teeth. THAT means that there is a potential for them to move around on you. Harry experienced this. Despite a secure fit, Harry just was not happy with the level of stability (or truly, the lack thereof) that the dentures were providing. While removable dentures work great for some people, they just are not the best option for other. Harry didn’t like the way they sometimes slipped around in his mouth. So he sought help.
Considering Dental Implants
When Harry realized that living with removable dentures was not going to get any easier, he contacted his friends at Overmeyer Family Dental. We scheduled an appointment and Harry was able to talk to our team about a different option: dental implants. While Harry had not loved the idea of dental implants before because they required surgery and were quite expensive, he realized that they may be the best solution for his specific needs.
Harry wanted teeth that were strong enough to eat the foods he loved. He also wanted them to stay put … permanently. Because dental implants were attached directly to the jaw like natural teeth, they would offer this kind of stability. Harry loved the idea of simple securing his full dentures with these implants and decided that he could part with the money this upgrade would require.
Undergoing The Procedure
Harry’s implant procedure was completely successful. We were able to place the implants in one visit without stress for Harry. After the procedure, Harry was sent home to heal. This process takes about 4 months. During the healing process, Harry had to be gentle with his smile, but true dental freedom was on the horizon.
Harry’s Happy Ending
Harry found that the investment of dental implants was truly worth it. Once he was all healed up, Harry could eat anything he wanted! He could chew and laugh and smile without worry that his teeth would move around or otherwise fail him. He was thrilled with the way they looked. And they took almost no getting used to! After the healing period, Harry was able to return to a normal life of NOT having to worry about his teeth!
