Like Father, Like Daughter – Meet a Second-Generation Orlando Dentist
Well, ever since I could remember, I never wanted to be a dentist. As a little girl, because everyone told me that that's what I was going to be because that's what my family was in. It actually was not until halfway through college that I decided I wanted to become a dentist. It was actually because one of my dad's best friends from dental school called me up and said, "Just give it a try." I originally wanted to become a physician of some sort. After shadowing a bunch of physicians, and then going to the dental school with my dad's best friend, and really seeing what dentistry was all about, that's when I really realized that this is actually a really cool field, and it's actually really getting me into what I really want to do, and it was a lot happier than a lot of the other sides of, you know, medicine.
Most rewarding part of being a dentist is probably getting that, taking a patient that is really unhealthy, and really not happy with their smile, and actually being able to give them that health and that full celebrity smile that they wanted, you know. When you finally get to hand over that mirror and be like, "Just take a look and see what you look like now,” that's the most rewarding part about it.
I went to the University of Florida for undergrad and then I went to the Ohio State University for dental school, then I came back to Florida, you know, wanted to come and practice with them. Continuing-education-wise, I've done Invisalign, Six Month Smiles, I've done Fastbraces, sleep apnea, practice in oral surgery a lot so I can do impacted wisdom teeth. I'm certified in mini implants, and I've also been certified in traditional implants as well for restorations for dentures and just individual teeth.
I do continuing education to stay up with everything, you know. I want my patients to come in and be able to get a full treatment, you know. I can look at a case with all aspects of, you know, my abilities and really get them the best treatment possible. If I just look at it from one perspective, then they may not be getting what they want.
